Suffolk-based pig building and equipment company, Quality Equipment, has raised £12,810 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the charity which provides a helicopter emergency medical service for people in East Anglia.
The company raised this money at various events which took place in 2015 to celebrate its 50th anniversary year and the total exceeded its £10,000 target.
Quality Equipment chose to support the East Anglian Air Ambulance because it rescued the company’s founder, Glyn Baker, from a life-threatening situation when he had an accident on a farm some years ago.
Patrick Peak, EAAA Chief Executive said: “We are extremely grateful for the support and we would like to say a huge thank you to Quality Equipment for their donations which will allow EAAA to continue its life-saving work.”
"We are very proud to have raised nearly £13,000 from customers, suppliers, employees, families and friends. It is especially note-worthy during such a difficult year for pig farmers."
I suppose the pig industry is different from any other agricultural sector in as much as there must have been more entrants to farming starting with a few pigs than anything else. That situation is still true today, and there’s no doubt that bed and breakfast pigs on a secure contract is the growth area in 039pig production.
Quality Equipment is celebrating its half-century this year. It was in 1965 that its founder, Glyn Baker, decided to set up as an agricultural engineer, initially repairing machinery and tractors, then specialising in pig equipment, establishing what was to become one of Britain’s best known and largest companies in this field.

Norfolk farmer Chris Green believes in keeping things simple, and that applies to his pig housing as well as his system of management. He’s recently put up two new finishing buildings, which he runs with his son, Geoffrey, on his seven-acre Three Gates Farm, at Great Moulton. They replaced three houses already there when he moved to the farm 15 years ago.
